6904-195 Lot of two TAYLOR braces. Jeremy Taylor received his patent in 1836, the only earlier brace patent was destroyed in the patent office fire of 1836 and no examples are known. Taylor-pattern braces are frequently found, but are usually unmarked. One of these is marked "Taylor Patent" and is also marked by Increase Wilson who manufactured many of Taylor's braces, 8" sweep. The other is marked by both Wilson and E.W. Long, apparently one of Taylor's contemporaries, it is also marked "4" and has the thumb lever protruding from the back of the chuck, 9" sweep. Both with good cast iron heads, some surface rust but no pitting. Good+ (TBI1060) 100 - 200
